Children In Worship

  • Worship begins as you enter the church. Include children when you greet others in the congregation or introduce yourself to new people and their children.
  • Help your children locate scripture readings from the Bible.
  • Comment on special events in worship such as baptism and other special days in the life of the church. Note changes: Do you notice certain colors? How about the altar, is it set for communion? Are there different decorations?
  • Ask your children to listen to the sermon and share what was learned when you talk about it later at home. Note-taking and coloring supplies are located at the back of the sanctuary.
  • Instead of being a distraction, an activity can help children concentrate. Pencils and crayons are practical aids in worship participation.
  • Help children further participate by giving their own offering, no matter how small.
  • Your children are welcome to join you as you take part in Holy Communion. Whether a member of DeSoto UMC or not, God’s table is open to everyone. These gifts are a sign of the grace of God given through Jesus. Share with them the meaning of the bread and cup.
  • Make Sunday worship a regular part of the time you spend with your children. Let God’s love be evident during the rest of the week.
  • Pray together at home. Pray for the people, needs and events of the church using the Sunday bulletin as a reminder. Include your children’s friends and families in your prayers.
  • For the next several years, you will be worshipping with your children. Our congregation supports you in this important ministry as parents, and we hope these suggestions will help enrich your experience.

Important Photography Announcement: Periodically we will have a photographer take pictures of our Children’s Ministry experience and events. We capture these experiences to share through our website, printed material and social media. If you prefer not to have your child photographed for this purpose, please contact the office.

Men’s Ministries

At DeSoto UMC, the Mens’ Ministry is a fairly casual group of men and we invite you to come join us just as you are. No pre-requisites or stuffiness found here. We’re just men looking to become better at being the man God wants us to be. The Mens’ Ministry is committed to building Godly men and we do so through four types of activities:
Fun – doing things that allow us to enjoy the world God made for us.
Help – share our expertise, talents and gifts in ways to benefit others.
Learn – getting to know God more closely.
Pray – communicating with God.

Programs currently offered for men include:
Men’s Gathering – meets the first and third Wednesday Morning at Richards Restaurant – 7:00 am for breakfast.
Lenten Breakfast Series – during the Lenten Season at different churches in the East District.
